“Amigo Brothers” mini-project

Locate one example, in the fight scene, of vivid figurative language, such as “dynamite stored in his fist”, “glowing glove burns showing angry red against the whiteness of his midribs”, “Beads of water exploded from Antonio’s long hair.”

Draw or paint a literal interpretation of the description chosen.

Use construction paper or small poster board for this exercise.  On the paper, students must have the following.

  1. Excerpt (from the story) showing the vivid figurative language
  2. Picture showing the literal interpretation
  3. One or two sentences showing what the example (excerpt) from the story means.  What is the author saying?(paraphrase)

Welcome Back!  Happy New Year to All!

This week in language arts students will continue “capturing images with the brush strokes of words.”  They will also be honing comprehension skills using the book Six-Way-Paragraphs.  This week’s grammar exercises will focus on commas.

Please get the report card average signed.  Averages were written in student planners today.  DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 12TH

 

TUESDAY, JANUARY 10TH:

Study for Friday’s Brush Strokes Test.  Students must know how to identify and use the five basic brush strokes correctly in an elaborate paragraph.  Please review the attention grabbing techniques as well.  Student paragraphs and essays MUST begin with an attention grabber.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11TH:

Complete the final draft of the team brush stokes paragraph.  Final drafts must be typed or written in ink.  (Students will be working on the paragraph in class with teams.  This is a practice paragraph to help prepare students for Friday’s test.)  DUE THURSDAY, JANUARY 12TH
